The Anglers Advantage Insurance Program's Underwriting Criteria and Parameters

  1. Program Parameters/Qualifications
    Designed for six-pack sportfishing and sightseeing charter operators/guides and for sportfishing enthusiasts who are active members in a sportfishing association and/or who simply enjoy sportfishing off their own yacht.

  2. Watercraft Qualifications
    • Watercraft must be 26 feet or longer in length or are valued over $100,000.

    • The minimum "agreed value" of the "combined" hull, engine(s)/motor(s), watercraft trailer and unattached equipment and accessories value (excluding personal effects which would include fishing equipment and tackle) must be greater than $5,000. --- subject to a maximum "agreed value" of $2,000,000. or less in "combined" values.

    • The watercraft does not have the capability of exceeding a maximum speed of 55 M.P.H.

    • No watercraft that are over twenty-five (25) years of age will be considered under this program.(Calculate by taking the current calendar year and subtract the watercraft's "model year".)

    • The watercraft's maximum "fare-paying passenger" carrying capacity must not exceed six (6) "fare-paying passengers".

    • The watercraft is not used for "commercial fishing" purposes exclusively --- except as relates to "for hire/charter by individual(s) or groups up to six (6) "fare-paying passengers".

    • The watercraft's design is predominantly either of a "sportfisherman" design hull; center console watercraft with at least twin outboard motors or inboard/ouboard motors; Chesapeake Bay built design hulls; mono-hull sailboat; catamaran sailboat; or triamaran sailboat.

    • Intended navigational use is "inside" the following navigational territory: The inland waters of the contiguous 48 states of the U.S. and Canada, the Great Lakes, and all coastal waters of the contiguous 48 states of the U.S. and Canada --- but specifically excluding all watercraft which are moored, stored, and/or berthed "FULL-TIME" within fifty (50) miles of the coastline inland from the Virginia/North Carolina border over to the Texas/Mexico border.

    • All outboard motor(s) MUST be "stock" manufacturer's motors. NO "modifications" to the outboard motor(s) to enhance its performance --- with "exceptions" of the addition to a "jack plate" or a change in propeller(s).

    • Outboard motors over seven (7) years of age for individuals or individuals which are a member of a sportfishing association; and over five (5) years of age for "six-pack charter operators" will be covered on an "Actual Cash Value" basis under our A.A.I.P. Sportfish and Sportfish Pro Policies.



  3. Operator/Owner Qualifications
    • The principal applicant MUST be at least 21 years of age.

    • The principal applicant or captain MUST have a minimum of three (3) years of owner experience of a charter watercraft of the same class and type (i.e. --- "sailboat" versus "powerboat') or larger as the charter watercraft or yacht for which coverage is being applied. ["Inexperienced owners/ operators" --- owners/operators with less than three (3) years experience in a watercraft of similar size (6 feet or less jump in length) and similar horsepower --- may be eligible for coverage but must be referred to A.A.I.P.'s Home Office for quotation purposes.]

    • The Company will NOT accept an operator of a sportfishing/sightseeing charter watercraft or private pleasure yacht if within the past three (3) years there have been:

      1. More than three (3) violations per operator or five (5) per household;

      2. Any major violations such as "Reckless Driving"; DUI/DWI; or any other alcohol or drug related offense;

      3. More than one (1) "at fault" accident; or

      4. A suspended or revoked drivers license currently due to a moving violation(s); refusal to submit to blood, breath or urine test; excessive blood alcohol content; failure to appear in traffic court; and/or failure to pay traffic fines.

      HOWEVER, infractions under "3" above may be referred to A.A.I.P./Old United Casualty Company's Home Office for their possible consideration ---if there are extenuating circumstances.

  4. Valuation
    "Agreed Value/Fair Market Value" form (except for certain scheduled items which are subject to depreciation specifically outlined in the policy). Outboard motors seven (7) years of age or older for individuals or individuals that are a member of a sportfishing association; and over five (5) years of age or older for "six-pack charter operators/guides" will be covered on an "Actual Cash Value" basis under our A.A.I.P. Sportfish or Sportfish Pro Policies.

  5. Navigation Limits
    Navigation limits under this program will be limited to the inland waters of the contiguous 48 states of the United States and Canada, the Great Lakes, and all coastal waters of the contiguous 48 states of the United States and Canada --- but specifically excluding all watercraft which are moored, stored, and/or berthed "FULL-TIME" within fifty (50) miles of the coastline inland from the North Carolina/Virginia border over to the Texas/Mexico border.

  6. Minimum Premiums
    The minimum annual premium is $250. for sailboats and $300. for "powerboats" for individual sportfishing enthusiasts or people who like to sportfish off their own yacht; or $450. for "sailboats" and $500. for "powerboats" for "six-pack sightseeing or sportfishing charter operators/guides" carrying only $100,000. in Protection & Indemnity (P&I) Coverage. The minimum annual earned premium is $50.

  7. Miscellaneous
    All risks MUST be submitted to A.A.I.P./Old United Casualty Company's Home Office for quotation purposes. Quotes will be honored for a maximum of thirty (30) days after they have been released to the association's member, individual applicant, or "six-pack" sightseeing or sportfishing applicant by A.A.I.P./Old United Casualty Company's Home Office.
